Le marché de Dong Xuan est davantage destiné aux habitants de Hanoi qu'aux touristes. En effet, si la visite peut être une activité amusante pour les étrangers, la plupart des articles vendus ici sont d'usage pratique et visent plutôt la population locale. Quelques étals proposent toutefois des souvenirs et des objets traditionnels caractéristiques de la culture vietnamienne.
Un marché nocturne, dans les rues alentour, se tient par ailleurs à Dong Xuan le vendredi, samedi et dimanche soir. À cette occasion, vous trouverez plus facilement des souvenirs et des objets pour les touristes. Ne manquez pas de faire une halte à l'un des stands pour goûter des plats nord-vietnamiens traditionnels.
Le marché de Dong Xuan se situe dans le cœur du vieux quartier de Hanoi. L'accès aux halles est gratuit et possible tout au long de la journée. À l'heure du déjeuner, la plupart des marchands risquent cependant de s'absenter pour manger ou de faire une sieste dans leur arrière-boutique.
