Ly Son District
Located in north-east of Quang Ngai Province, about 15 nautical miles (27km) from mainland. Ly Son Island holds an important strategic position in the East Sea of Viet Nam and contains diversified tourism potential and valuable documents on Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago.
With an area of 9.97km², Ly Son Island District includes two islands of Big Island (Cu Lao Re) belonging to An Vinh and An Hai communes and Little Island (Cu Lao Bo Bai) belonging to An Binh Commune. In addition, there is also Mu Cu Islet on the east side of the Big Island.
According to geologists, Ly Son was formed a few million years ago by the movement of volcano, which raised layers of sedimentary rocks from the sea. Trace of volcanic eruptions is lava blocks in various shapes and fertile basalt soil on the island, creating favorable conditions for habitation of many plant species.
From the peaks of 5 mountains on Ly Son Island District, visitors will be impressed by magnificent scenery of mountains and sea. Ly Son is also the ideal destination to explore the rich marine life with various fish troops and colorful coral ranges...
The island people live mainly by fishing and planting onion and garlic. Called “the kingdom of garlic”, Ly Son is also known for garlic salad - a flavorful dish.
To Ly Son Island, visitors have the opportunity to visit many cultural - historical relics such as Hang Pagoda, Duc Pagoda, Cau Cave, An Vinh Village Communal House, Ba Roi Temple, Hoang Sa – Truong Sa Flotilla Relic, relics of Cham and Sa Huynh culture... Of which, Hang Pagoda, An Vinh and An Hai Communal Houses and Am Linh Pagoda were recognized by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as national cultural – historical relics.
Ly Son contains a living treasure of legends, tales, folk songs, festivals, especially Feast and Commemoration Festival for Hoang Sa Soldiers... The island also preserves many documents on Hoang Sa Archipelago; numerous stone and ceramic objects of Cham and Dai Viet nations… to affirm Viet Nam’s sovereignty over sea and islands.
